We are visiting the Hawthorne Valley up the Hudson river, New York, and are excited to offer to community there a pivotal moment in the life story of contemporary activist Julia Butterfly Hill, with works from "A Shovel of Stars Overhead: Where To? What Next?"

Julia’s story The Legacy of Luna is a moving example of greatness of spirit, embodying love in action through her heroic deed. Alone, staked out high-up in the tumultuous boughs of thousand-year-old Luna the Redwood tree, twenty-one year old Julia makes a two-year-long stand against the logging industry, illuminating a strength of inner resolve, flaming idealism, and depth of courage that redirects the course of outer events.

"The Storm" is surrounded with excerpts from our evening program "A Shovel of Stars Overhead: Where To? What Next?" with poetry and music from Whitman to Hughes, Dvorak to Cowell and Smirnov.
