Eurythmy Spring Valley is delighted to offer two weeks of pedagogy for professional eurythmists on our campus in August 2026, embedded in our pedagogical training courses. Each week will provide a different pedagogical focus and content for participants.

Week One: Monday – Friday, August 3-7, 2026

Eurythmy in Nursery and Kindergarten through the Seventh Grade with John Holmes

In Week One, you are invited to join John Holmes, a long-time eurythmy teacher, retired from the Kimberton Waldorf School, PA, for a rich review of the pedagogical eurythmy curriculum for nursery and kindergarten through the seventh grade. The course will focus on the when, the what, the why, and the how, of introducing the art of eurythmy as a means for aiding the healthy incarnation of the developing human being. The course will include how to strengthen the student's coordination and spatial orientation in age-appropriate ways, as well as the social interaction of each class. For the younger classes, the story will be at the core of the work. It will be followed by a variety of ways to help with the nine-year change, and then how to meet the young adolescent with the beginnings of analytical thinking that appear in the sixth and seventh grades.

Study with Lisa Profumo: Teaching, the Joy of Profession

Lisa Profumo from the Berkshire Waldorf School, MA, will also lead a study, reading and discussing Christof Wiechert's lectures from the book Teaching, the Joy of Profession. Lisa says, “In our times, teaching can seem to be an overwhelming and underappreciated task. Waldorf teachers are among the most earnest and dedicated of souls who come forth to take on this special task. What is most important for those who consider this endeavor, is that teaching in itself is not a job, nor a profession. It is a calling. However, we must keep in mind that in our heartfelt striving we don't become so earnest that we forget that this is a joyful vocation, filled with love, balance, and humor. Christof Wiechert's book Teaching, the Joy of Profession is a wonderful guide through the educational journey. Students are encouraged to read the whole book on their own. We will be working on Chapters 7, 9, 12,13.” This book is required for this course and is available from Waldorf Publications.

Week Two: Monday – Thursday, August 10-13, 2026

Eighth Grade Eurythmy with Patti Regan, and High School Eurythmy with Raymonde Fried

Study with Lisa Profumo: Teaching, the Joy of Profession

In Week Two, Patti Regan, eurythmy teacher at the Berkshire Waldorf School, MA, will present curriculum for the eighth grade. Following that, Raymonde Fried from Kimberton Waldorf School, PA, will immerse students in her specialty of high school eurythmy for three days. (Her course will end on Thursday so that participants take the advantage of the 52 Colors of the Soul event also happening that week.)

Patti and Raymonde will be supported by the continuing study of Teaching, the Joy of Profession led by Lisa Profumo of the Berkshire Waldorf School, MA.

Raymonde Fried about her biography:

My eurythmy biography began in Dornach, Switzerland, in 1974. The Academy of the Art of Eurythmy, lead by Lea van der Pals, was the school I attended and graduated from in the winter of 1978.

In 1979, I got married and moved to the US, lived and worked in Camphill Special Schools, Beaver Run, PA, for 10 years. In 1981, I co-founded the Pennsylvania Eurythmy Ensemble, and through the ensuing years, assembled thematic programs to take on modest tours, largely limited to the east coast. Membership fluctuated from time to time. No fewer than 3, no more than 7. Over this extended period of time, I attended many summer workshops led by Michael Leber in Garden City, NJ, and then in Portland, OR. In 2005, I joined the New World Symphony project, taking time off from teaching to immerse myself in this deeply memorable work! A year later, I attended the 2006 summer intensive in Dornach where Dorothea Mier focused on the 1st movement of the same symphony!

I was inspired to take up working on orchestral music with the 11th grade students at Kimberton Waldorf School, PA, and to this day, an art block is designated for the students, culminating in a performance in which the high school orchestra plays the chosen piece.

Now I’m in my 36th year of teaching 7th through 12th grades, and I’m still learning from my students how to bring eurythmy to them in an accessible way! They keep me on my toes!

Each course will provide a review of pedagogical forms and their relevance for the period of childhood being studied, as well as themes from the curriculum, especially adaptable for use in eurythmy. We will also have time to share materials with one another and discuss topics of current concern and interest.

We are holding these pedagogical courses for the ESV students in their training, but have found that it's enriching for everyone to have practicing teachers join the ongoing training as refresher courses. So all are welcome!

Pre-registration is required!
